At Ocean, we’re always working to build the best platform for patient engagement and provider communication in Canada. With new features and improvements rolling out every three weeks, our product and development teams have been busy making Ocean more powerful, flexible, and easy to use.

Here’s a roundup of some of our latest updates that are already making a difference for clinics and patients across the country:

Team-based booking now in early access

We’ve started rolling out Team-Based Booking, a new option in Ocean Online Booking designed to support clinics that operate with shared schedules, such as walk-in clinics or seasonal vaccination clinics.

Instead of patients needing to select an individual provider, they can simply choose the appointment type and be matched with the next available slot from a pool of schedules. This helps clinics maximize appointment availability while keeping booking simple for patients.

Team-Based Booking is still in early access, and clinics interested in trying it can sign up here.

Appointment cancellations right from Patient Reminders

Patients can now manage their appointments more easily with a new appointment cancellation option in Patient Reminder emails!

When enabled, patients can cancel directly through Health Messenger, without having to call the clinic. This added flexibility can be particularly useful for routine appointments like flu shots or same-day visits, while still giving clinics full control to keep cancellations disabled for longer or more complex appointments (such as specialist consults or physicals).

This improvement not only saves time for front-desk staff but also gives patients more autonomy in managing their care.

Streamline workflows with Autofill Templates

Sending eRequests just got a whole lot faster! With Autofill Templates, providers can save frequently used request forms as templates and apply them with a single click. This eliminates the need to re-enter the same information for common referrals, diagnostic imaging, or lab requests, saving time and improving consistency.

Benefits of Autofill Templates:

  • Enhance consistency: Deliver high-quality information every time
  • Stay flexible: Create personalized templates for your specialty or workflow
  • Promote completeness: Reduce delays from missing fields or incomplete eRequests
  • Easy to use: Seamlessly integrates into existing Ocean workflows

For example, a primary care provider can create templates to fire off a quick eReferral, while a specialist might use templates for pre-surgical diagnostic imaging or an eConsult with another provider. No matter the workflow, Autofill Templates simplify the process and improve efficiency.

Say hello to enhanced language support

As Ocean expands across Canada, we’ve been making it easier for patients to access care in their preferred language. Highlights of this work include a clear top-level language toggle in the Health Messenger, allowing patients to seamlessly switch the interface to suite their needs, as well as a new form-specific language toggle added to every multilingual Ocean form.

With the form toggle, patients will be able to select from any available translations directly within Health Messenger (no fiddling with browser settings). This ensures patients can engage with their care in a way that feels natural and accessible to them.

This work is ongoing, and we’ll continue to expand language support so clinics can better serve their diverse patient populations.
