Referral Import Assist
The Referral Import Assist chrome extension is an Ocean Labs tool that eliminates the manual data entry burden of processing faxed referrals. Clinic staff can drag and drop a faxed referral PDF directly into the extension, which then uses AI to read and transcribe the document and automatically populate a new inbound referral in the Ocean platform — no manual re-keying required.
The tool supports both sender and receiver use cases, and is designed to work as a Chromium browser extension, making it lightweight and easy to adopt without any complex infrastructure changes.
Under the hood, the extension uses AI for PDF transcription and field extraction. The architecture is designed to eventually support local/on-device AI processing once model accuracy is sufficient.
